A reason to free BAROTSELAND.

Barotseland Economic Forum

Fears and questions have often been asked about the economic viability of Barotseland. On the Barotseland Economic Forum we will focus on exploring the development prospect of Barotseland and see which areas and sectors of economic development can Barotseland leverage post independence.

What is your take on the subject? Can you give specific areas of economic activities that you think Barotseland can explore and exploit as we determine our own economic destiny?

Barotseland is one of the few African Countries endowed with a lot of natural resources that can be put to good use. For example in the energy sector, we have abundant sunlight for solar energy and enough wind enough to generate and supply Barotseland with electricity. The other area we can utilise is in Biomass technology where you are able to convert rice husks into electricity and pellets for domestic heating and this is suitable for rural areas.

Can Barotseland break and prosper?
The answer is yes. Barotseland has more opportunities for prosperity outside Zambia than within. The critiques of Barotse independence have always argued that the sandy soils are a hindrance to agricultural prosperity, therefore Barotse people may starve to death if they dare reclaim their right to self determination. I prefer to differ. Despite clinging to Zambia, Barotseland has recorded one of the highest levels of poverty ever in history, with increased hunger, disease and serious environmental degradation. Not all Barotseland is sandy and that maize should not be the yardstick to measure her food sufficiency potential. After all, Barotseland does not tirely depend on maize from Lusaka. The sands in Barotseland are actually more productive than the pure Kalahari thus supporting tree crops like cashew, mangoes, cassava etc. By the way, "Top-working" on mangoes can increase the output and quality to export levels. Namibia uses mauza as staple food. Policies supportive of mabele, mauza and cassava can unlock Barotseland’s food sufficiency potentail, while rice and cashew remain key commercial crops. In the Livestock Sector: cattle has potential to earn Barotseland much of her foreign exchange. I prefer Barotseland sends a team of scholars to study Batswana’s Livestock Sector. With good policies Barotseland can be self-sufficient in both human and stock-feed fisheries resources. Barotseland needs to protect her forest resource as soon as possible given tha rate of decline in this sector.

Bulozi has very rich HUMAN RESOURCE BASE base which can really turn around the economic status of our country for the betterment all its citizens. One thing that needs to be done is to carry out mass civic education to pull out patriotism, ethnocentrism, unity and love for each other, to complement our confidence for self determination. tere are many optimistic nationals at home and abroad who are very ready to take the new nation forward to its estimed glory.
