Self determination is the right of people living within a non self governing territory to choose for themselves the political and legal status of that territory. They may chose independence and the formation of the same state, integration into another state, or association with an independent state, with autonomy in internal affairs.
The systems of * mandates and trusteeship marked a step towards recognizing a legal right to self-determination, but it is not yet completely recognized as a legal norm. it is probably illegal for another state to intervene against liberation movement and it may be legal to give assistance to such a movement.
The definition is taken from the Oxford Dictionary of Law page 486.
It must therefore, be noted that self-determination is a human right matter and it is backed by international law because one of the tenets or principles of human rights is that they are universal, inborn, inherent etc
Another issue is that liberation movements are protected and recognized by international community and international law for instance resolution number 1514 (xv) recognizes National liberation movements, therefore, for Barotseland such movements as LINYUNGANADAMBO, BAROTSELAND NATIONAL YOUTH LEAGUE etc. by international law, did not or do not need to register themselves with Zambia which is a SUBJUGATOR, because these liberation movements by virtue of them existing automatically they have been recognized by the international community and their objectives and visions are well known.
In addition to that, as stated in the definition of self-determination, it is illegal for another state to intervene against a liberation movement and it may be legal to give assistance to such a movement.
It must be therefore, noted that it is illegal for the state of Zambia and any other state to intervene against any liberation movement of the free state of Barotseland, and what may be legal is for any state to give assistance to such a movement.
Another issue is that none of the liberation movements needed or need to register to the state of Zambia because Zambia is a foreign country and consequently its laws do not apply to any Barotzish persons or liberation movement.
